About Chosen Sounds

IMG_2631_edited_edited_edited.png

Hi, my name is Gavin. Music has been a constant in my life for over 35 years, and I first started mixing records on vinyl in the early 2000s.

DJing has been part of my world ever since, even as life and work have taken me in different directions.

Alongside DJing, I’ve continued to stay hands-on with music through live playing, creating my own material, and working with multitrack recordings and mixing.

After years of fitting music around office work and other commitments, I’ve been fortunate enough to put myself in a position where Chosen Sounds can be more than just a side project.

It’s long been an ambition of mine to take this on full-time, and to finally give proper space to something that’s always mattered to me.

It also allows me to approach events with the care and headspace they deserve — thinking about how a night should feel, not just what gets played.

How I work

I am an open format DJ. I will play most styles and am comfortable moving between multiple genres in the same set.

I deliberately don't advertise prices because the cost depends on what you need.  I've got varying levels of equipment, sound, and lighting options that suit every event, large or small.  Distance from Colchester plays a part too.

If you fill in one of my event forms, or give me a call using the number at the bottom of the page, I can quickly put a price together. I take a non-refundable admin fee of 25% to secure the booking, with the balance due two weeks before the event. Once everything is agreed, I’ll provide a simple written agreement so everything is clearly confirmed.

If it sounds like a good fit, please get in touch.

Music

I own a huge range of music from the 60s right through to current charts, and I’m always adding to it. I’m also subscribed to BeatSource Pro+, which gives me access to a massive catalogue alongside my own library.

For gigs, I mainly work from downloaded music curated from the brief we discussed in advance, with a solid backbone of all-time classics to lean on should the night call for it.

Personally, my taste is pretty eclectic, and I’ve always been the kind of person who goes down musical rabbit holes. Rock and metal have featured heavily for me over the years, alongside a much wider mix of styles.

Equipment

Sound

Lighting

I take sound quality seriously, all of my professional-grade equipment was purchased new in 2025 and is extremely well maintained.

  • Alto TS415 PA Speakers

  • Alto TS18S Subwoofer

  • Traktor DJ controller

  • Traktor 4 pro DJ software

  • Shure SM58 microphone

  • Behringer Mixing Desk

  • Apple MacBook Pro (Apple silicon)

This setup scales comfortably from smaller rooms through to larger wedding venues and event spaces, with headroom to spare.

I put a lot of thought into my lighting rig, which was new in late 2025, and chose it for its flexibility and professional-level lighting.

  • Chauvet GigBAR Move - all-in-one lighting system

  • Chauvet COLORband Q3BT – room wash / ambient lighting

  • Chauvet Gobo Zoom 2 – custom logo / name projection

  • Equinox Colour Raider uplighters – six wireless ambient mood lighting

  • Equinox Vapour 1000 – haze / smoke machine

This setup can be shaped around what you need from the space, whether that’s calm and ambient, a full party atmosphere, or a mix of the two.
